Once they were engaged, both the man and the woman would wear part of the ring, and during the wedding ceremony they would reconnect the band. After that, the bride would wear the unified ring.

In the Victorian era, engagement rings had intricate, romantic designs, like filigree, engravings, and floral patterns.
